Three Arnold Schwartzenegger Bodybuilding Documentaries to Inspire (FI)

The 1977 bodybuilding documentary “Pumping Iron”, is known the world over, but there was more drama to Arnold’s bodybuilding career than just his showdown against Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbo for the Mr. Olympia title in 1975. Watch two other lesser known Arnold Schwarzenegger documentaries and Pumping Iron and feel the urge to hit the gym with a vengeance afterwards. In chronological order:

Arnold’s Blueprint: ESPN 30 for 30 Shorts (1965)

Primarily focusing on Arnold’s time spent in the Austrian army in 1965 to fulfill a required 1 year of active service, this ESPN documentaries provides some engrossing insights into how the initial foundations were laid for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s success in bodybuilding and beyond.

Pumping Iron (1975)

Pumping Iron is a partially dramaticized documentary following Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, Franco Columbo, Mike Katz, and other notable bodybuilding legends during the lead up and day of the 1975 Mr. Olympia Contest. At this point, Arnold had already won 5 Mr. Olympia titles and was aiming to secure a sixth straight consecutive win. This documentary is responsible for many famous quotes and scenes, and is a must watch for any bodybuilding fan.

Total Rebuild – Way To Mr.Olympia (1980)

A lesser known documentary covering Arnold’s sudden return to the bodybuilding world in an attempt to win a 7th Mr. Olympia title after a five year hiatus. Other bodybuilding legends such as Frank Zane and Tom Platz make appearances, and this documentary features extended shots showing posing sequences of the aforementioned bodybuilders and life behind the contest stage.
